The municipal court in this Norwalk, Connecticut neighborhood is run by the city’s Housing & Community Development Department. He was arrested and charged with indecent exposure.
The man was ultimately released because the woman had no knowledge that she was the victim of indecent exposure. She had no idea what she was accused of, and since she didn’t know she’d been exposed, she was not responsible. But this case is a bit of a wakeup call for the rest of us who still need some reminders of what we can do when we are accused of something that is not actually illegal.
There are times where people can be charged for something they are not actually guilty of, so it is important that we as a society take a lesson from this. If someone is accused of indecent exposure, the next best thing is to have them go to a court and prove their innocence. I know this from personal experience. I was accused of indecent exposure once, and I went to a court, but I was ultimately cleared. And I can’t blame the prosecutor…
But it is important that we as a society keep this in mind. If you go to a court, you have to prove that you have done nothing wrong. That’s important. If you are guilty, you must be found guilty. If you are innocent, you must be acquitted. And if you are acquitted, you should be given the chance to prove your innocence. But that’s not really the case.
The court is set up like a normal court, but its not. It is a mock court where judges, prosecutors, and defense attorneys are paid to sit and talk to each other. In reality, the case is being thrown out because there is no evidence. But the mock court is an excellent way to practice and teach the principles of evidence, which is very important for a court to function properly.
